Overview
The Warrior is is Midgard’s pure heavy tank… simple on paper, but one of the most important classes in organized RvR. Warriors are built around durability, control, and protection. They wear heavy armor, have access to large shields, and can spec multiple weapon types, and have the highest damage table in the game. Warrior is a good choice for a players that enjoy peeling, protecting, and being durable in fights.
Group Playstyle
In 8v8, the Warrior is not just a frontline bruiser… it is the defensive decision-maker of the group. Their job isn’t to “fight” in a general sense. It’s to triage chaos instantly and decide what stops their group from collapsing in the first 5–10 seconds of contact.**

The Mental Model
A good Warrior in 8v8 is basically:
-
A real-time threat filter
-
A crowd control allocator
-
A backline survival system
They are constantly asking themselves:
-
“Who dies if I do nothing?”
-
“What stops this push immediately?”
-
“Where is my Slam worth the most time?”
In a standard Midgard 8v8, Warriors enable everything else:
-
Assist train (Zerkers/Savages) can go offensive because Warrior stops them from being counter-peeled
-
Healers can free cast and interrupt because Warrior controls melee pressure
-
Shamans can support
Without a Warrior doing correct triage, Midgard collapses under split pressure.
Key Roles
Use Shield styles (numb, slam etc) to gain control
This is the most important decision in their toolkit. Slam is reserved for:
-
Enemy tanks reaching your support or casters
-
High burst melee entering backline (BMs, Mercs, etc.)
-
Any enemy about to convert pressure into a kill window
Your Slam style is the “hard reset button”:
-
9-second stun
-
Allows your group to recover positioning
-
Enables counter-peel or counter-push
Bad Warriors waste Slam and give out free stun immunity. Good Warriors save fights with it.
Snare Uptime
Keeping snare uptime on enemy melees, to keep them crawling and unable to reach their targets, is key as a defensive peeler. The Warrior:
-
Uses snares to lock movement lanes
-
Keeps targets inside kill zones
-
Prevents clean resets from enemy teams
-
Communicates to its team mates when they need to move if a snared target is approaching them
Most Warriors spec Hammer for endurance and positional benefits. Your typical snare styles will be Frost Hammer (side snare) and Conquer (back snare).
Keeping your Support Alive
A Warrior is constantly:
-
Guarding healers from melee trains
-
Intercepting stray hits or assist swaps
-
Breaking up enemy dive paths
-
Forcing enemies to “spend time” getting to backline
If the backline lives, Midgard wins the tempo war. If it dies, nothing else matters.
Group Spec Options:

50 Hammer, 42 Shield, 41 Parry
-
50 Hammer gives you best damage and best weaponskill for peeling. Your typical peel styles are Frost Hammer (side) and Conquer (back).
-
42 Shield (for Slam 9.0 sec stun) is mandatory for groups
-
41 Parry offers a ton of added defense which makes people peeling you more difficult
- Alternatively, many players prefer to increase Shield to 50 and drop Parry to 31. This is also a good spec
-
Sword/Axe are not recommended for group play because they lack both back and side snares
Solo Playstyle
In solo combat, the Warrior is best understood as a survivability-first duelist who wins by attrition and control rather than burst damage. They are extremely hard to kill, but they are not built to reliably finish fights quickly against the stronger dedicated 1v1 classes.
PvE/Leveling
Warrior is the premier main tank in Midgard PvE and serves as the backbone of nearly every leveling or dungeon group. Built around shield-based survivability and reliable taunt control, the Warrior’s job is simple but absolutely essential: serve as the main tank by holding aggro, repeatedly taunting mobs, and keeping enemies focused away from the rest of the group.
When played correctly, the Warrior becomes the stable anchor that allows every other class to do their job safely and efficiently.
Core Role: Main Tank and Aggro Anchor
In PvE groups, the Warrior is responsible for:
-
establishing initial aggro on pulls
-
holding multiple mobs at once when needed
-
preventing enemies from reaching support or DPS
-
maintaining control through consistent taunts and shield pressure
Once mobs arrive:
-
engage with shield attacks
-
begin taunt rotation immediately
-
prioritize enemies hitting casters or healers first
Shield Tanking: Your Primary Defense Tool
Your shield is your identity as a Warrior and it allows you to:
-
absorb incoming damage
-
block melee attacks consistently
-
safely hold multiple mobs at once
