Doublebind

On Blackthorn, all forms of scripting and automation that combine multiple inputs into one keystroke are prohibited. In its place, we have thoughtfully implemented our Doublebind system. Doublebind is intended to provide enough comfort and convenience for casual players without the need for third party programs. Doublebind will supplement existing Backupstyle and automatic style chaining as well as Weapon Sets systems to offer basic convenience while keeping its direct impact on the mechanics of player combat minimal.

How it Works

Doublebind allows you to bind** up to two **inputs into a single key. You can Doublebind either:

  1. **One offensive spell + One defensive **spell (only one of these can be instant)

  2. Two defensive instant cast spells (chants, songs, pulses, etc.)

Other non-spell inputs such as styles, commands, pet commands, etc., are not eligible for Doublebind. Minstrel charm is also ineligible. You are limited to 2 inputs only on a single Doublebind.

Basic Commands

Command Description
/doublebind set # Doublebind the next two spells you cast
/doublebind # Execute a Doublebind
/doublebind clear # Delete a saved Doublebind
/doublebind cancel Cancel a pending Doublebind
/doublebind list Show all your saved Doublebinds

After you create a Doublebind, it will appear in your spell window tree.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many inputs can I put onto a single key with Doublebind?

A: Up to two.

Q: Can I add styles to Doublebind?

A: No, only spells can be added.

Q: Can I add commands like /face or /assist, or pet commands, to Doublebind?

A: No, commands are not eligible for Doublebind.

Q: Why is Doublebind so limited in what can be included?

A: Doublebind has two purposes: First, to allow players to use the same button to bind one offensive and one defensive spell, enabling players to require less total buttons without impacting combat directly. Second, to offer more convenience to classes that are required to cycle a significant amount of defensive spells in a repetitive manner. Doublebind is designed in a limited way to offer basic convenience while keeping its direct impact on the mechanics of player combat minimal.

Q: Can I use instant spells in my Doublebinds?

A: You can use one instant spell in an offensive + defensive type of Doubelbind. But if you want to combine two instant spells, they must both be defensive spells only.

Q: What are the restrictions surrounding auto hot key (AHK) use?

A: Autohotkey (AHK) is completely prohibited. Additionally, using third party tools to add scripts, loops, delays, scripted mouse movements etc is not allowed

Q: What about programs like Reshade? Can I use it to enhance my graphics?

A: Yes, you are allowed to adjust the graphics of the game to your preferences. However, it is forbidden to use programs for the sake of bypassing the visibility of terrain or objects, such as modifying your game so that there are no trees.

Q: Can I use a mouse or keyboard or other hardware with multiple inputs mapped onto a single key/button?

A: No, mapping multiple buttons to a single button is prohibited. But you can use the hardware, regularly, if you’re not mapping multiple keys/buttons onto a single one.

Q: Can I remap keys in 1:1 fashion if it does not combine multiple inputs into one key press?

A: Yes, 1:1 remapping is allowed.

Q: What happens if I am caught using AHK or scripting/automated hardware?

A: You will be permanently banned.

Q: Why are third-party scripting tools and hardware against the rules?

A: Our goal is to preserve the feel and gameplay experience of DAoC as it existed in classic times. In essence, this means that you can play the game with only the mechanics that are available to you within the game and trust that you are competing with others on a level playing field. Allowing third party scripting tools destroys this trust and opens the door for a degree of abuse and automation that damages not just the gameplay aspect, but also the social element of our project. We have decided that in order to protect the integrity of our project, we can not allow the use of these tools.

Q: I want to use a program that changes the color and size of my mouse pointer. Is this allowed?

A: Yes, this offers no advantage other than mouse visibility and does not affect other players.
